As we all know two types of language mainly spoken in any country in the world. One is Formal (5%) and another one is Informal (95 %). When I say formal, it means, used by institutions, mainly heard on news broadcasts and it is spoken by a few size of richer, well-educated people;
But main problem is- Many, new foreign language learners or beginners do huge mistake over here. Let me explain How !
You decided to learn Hindi as a foreign language (or take any other language for example), Then you search for self- study courses and materials, that’s great! , But you must have noticed, All study materials & courses based entirely upon the academic language (Formal Language) and also written by highly qualified people, especially by those who have done mastery or PhD. in same language domain. In those materials, You may find numerous polite greeting, expressions which you will never hear spoken by any native.
As a beginner, Learning Formal Hindi (knowingly or unknowingly )will put you in a paradoxical situation; Also You will not be able to use it to talk to high class or well educated people (Indians), Wondering why? Because they speak very good English and insist on using it. Also going for the Formal Hindi as a beginner, may be bad idea, because You won’t be able to speak to other 95 percent of the population, who use common Hindi (Informal Hindi) only.
Let me tell you, I don’t have any personal problem with Formal Hindi, But people who usually give up easily stating “Learning foreign language is difficult.” No! It’s not and never!
When you meet someone, who can speak a Hindi as a foreign language well, you may be attribute his or her skill in the language to natural ability. This is probably because you do not know about all the hard work that went into achieving this level of mastery.
